The same cannot be said of John Lennon's Imagine, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, maybe because few vocalists have dared to deviate from the prescription for world peace's earnestness. It's a message to the cosmos that people can have an impact on others. It's poetry that sets off a chain reaction that has the potential to transform society. In Lennon's Instant Karma song "We all shine on," there is a world imagined in which we "live as one."
