John Winston Ono Lennon Posted on 7 May, 2021

John Winston Ono Lennon, also known as John Winston Lennon, was an English singer, songwriter, musician, and peace activist who rose to international renown as the Beatles' member, co-lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist. His songwriting collaboration with Paul McCartney is still one of the most influential in history. With his second wife, Yoko Ono, he formed the Plastic Ono Band in 1969. Following the disbandment of the Beatles in 1970, Lennon began his career as a solo artist and collaborator with Yoko Ono. Lennon had 25 number one songs on the Billboard Hot 100 list as a singer, songwriter, or co-writer. His best-selling album, Double Fantasy, received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1981. Lennon received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music in 1982. In a BBC poll of the 100 Greatest Britons in 2002, Lennon was voted eighth. According to Rolling Stone, he is the fifth-greatest singer of all time and the thirty-eighth greatest artist of all time. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and 1998, respectively (twice, as a member of the Beatles in 1988 and as a solo artist in 1994).
